The economy that does not count the household

National accounts exclude most unpaid household and care work by definitional choice, leaving activity that sustains every economy outside its headline measure, a boundary feminist economists have contested for decades. The exclusion was a decision, renewed with each statistical revision. What a society measures tracks what it has decided to owe attention.

ValuesKnowledge and Society
What a knower or a community takes to be worth pursuing, protecting or preferring. Values operate inside knowledge production and not just around it: they select the problems, set the acceptable risk of error, and decide which trade-offs count as costs.
ObjectivityStatus of Knowledge
Independence from the particular standpoint of any individual knower. Objectivity is better understood as something a method or a community achieves through checks on individual bias than as something a single knower can simply decide to have.

Scope
What this area of knowledge is about, what problems it takes as its own, and where its questions stop being answerable by its methods. Scope is where you examine why a discipline exists at all and what it deliberately leaves to others.
Ethics
The ethical questions internal to the knowledge itself: what may be investigated and how, what obligations the knowledge places on those who hold it, and the ethical constraints the discipline imposes on its own practitioners.
